Existential-Integrative Therapy

Are you a human or a number?

It has been my personal and professional experience that clients are not truly seen and experienced within therapy. When I worked at numerous nonprofit agencies, it was common to prescribe a “one size fits all” approach to any client and problem that came into the office.

Within this agency work, providers were taught to stick to the “tried and true” which often came from a place of assumption when working with clients.

In other words, most therapists and facilities are trained to see you as your problems – not the wonderful and amazing human being that you are.

Let’s make sure we don’t suppress those symptoms!

The problem with western medicine’s approach to psychotherapy is that it often treats the symptom without addressing the “root cause” of what is happening. It leaves little room for self-exploration and understanding – and often is driven by symptom reduction.

Though symptom reduction should be a common goal for all clients, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Far too many times clients are discharged from therapy once they are given a pill to fix their problem or they report not as high level of symptoms. This sets you up to be back on a therapist’s couch in a few months.

Insist upon individual care.

The time has come for clients to be informed about the level of care they SHOULD be receiving in therapy and how to go about advocating for it. Each client should be seen as an individual who is provided the space to explore their world and how they relate to it.

A therapist should be seen as a fellow traveler in the world. Not the master who holds all of the answers. When clients experience a deep, profound change, they are able to overcome their symptoms and identify and address root causes to any problems.

Lasting change is possible.

I strongly believe in helping my clients achieve their goals while creating true, authentic, lasting change.

Why would I attempt to utilize the same techniques on you when it is clear they are not working for you? I view my role as a therapist to meet my client wherever they are and to ensure my approach matches their personal uniqueness.

Using a modality that works for you…

Existential Integrative Therapy allows for deep, meaningful, and often profound realizations and change to be experienced. Existential psychotherapy strives to really understand each and every client as the individual that they are.

No assumptions are to be made on my part, and my goal from our first contact is to truly understand how you view and experience your world. By exploring your relationship to your world, you can reflect on patterns you engage in that usually come from your beliefs and value systems.

Integrative therapy means that I do not believe in only working from one therapeutic modality. I spent almost 10 years in school learning numerous approaches to mental health. Why would I limit my clients to only one approach?

I pride myself in creating customized treatment plans for all of my clients that are rooted in Existential psychotherapy; however, I also pull from numerous other modalities such as humanistic, CBT, DBT, and far many more.

This allows a greater amount of change to be experienced while permitting you to be seen and heard in ways you did not think were possible.
