Are you a human or a number?
It has been my personal and professional experience that clients are not truly seen and experienced within therapy. When I worked at numerous nonprofit agencies, it was common to prescribe a “one size fits all” approach to any client and problem that came into the office.
Within this agency work, providers were taught to stick to the “tried and true” which often came from a place of assumption when working with clients.
In other words, most therapists and facilities are trained to see you as your problems – not the wonderful and amazing human being that you are.
Let’s make sure we don’t suppress those symptoms!
The problem with western medicine’s approach to psychotherapy is that it often treats the symptom without addressing the “root cause” of what is happening. It leaves little room for self-exploration and understanding – and often is driven by symptom reduction.
